Youth Red Cross
Young volunteers can make a significant contribution to meet the needs of the most vulnerable people within their local communities through the Red Cross youth programme. This has been designed to involve young people as much as possible in the movement and its activities, not only as workers and beneficiaries, but also as partners in management. The programme focuses on the following areas:
- Encourage community service through training and education.
- Disseminate the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement through activities that encourage Red Cross ideals.
- Promote international friendship through activities that cultivate a humanitarian spirit.
- Provide technical support in developing youth programmes, fundraising, and identifying material and human resources.
- Enable young people to be recognized by Red Cross societies as leaders who address the needs of the most vulnerable.
What Is Youth Red Cross?
The Youth Red Cross is an important constituent of its parent organization, the Indian Red Cross Society. It is a group movement organized for college students, generally between 18 and 25 years of age. A qualified lecturer is nominated as the leader and is called the Programme Officer. Under the officer's guidance, students are trained and encouraged to manage the affairs of the group and elect their own office-bearers.
Main Objectives of Youth Red Cross
The main purpose of organizing the Youth Red Cross is:
- To inculcate awareness among young people about caring for their own health and the health of others.
- To develop an understanding and acceptance of civic responsibilities and to fulfil them with humanitarian concern.
- To develop a spirit of service and a sense of duty, dedication and devotion among young people.
- To cultivate friendly relationships with everyone without discrimination.
- To encourage young people to become leaders who address the needs of the most vulnerable.
