Course Features
Department Highlights
Serving as a beacon of higher learning, with the mission of uplifting the community by providing education, and through striving for continuous improvement, this institution intends to promote educational inclusion among a broad spectrum of unreached rural youths by functioning as a Centre of Excellence.
- To prosper in academic activities by continual improvement in teaching methods, laboratory facilities and research activities.
- To enrich knowledge and encourage the students to become entrepreneurs.
- To produce engineers who can participate in technical advancement and social enlistment of the country and to meet the growing global changes.
Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physically and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways.
Academic Environment
The Department of Civil Engineering is affiliated to AICTE under Anna University Chennai with excellent Classrooms and Seminar Halls. The Classrooms have been equipped with OHP/LCD projectors.
The Department offers practical oriented Courses in a perfect academic environment with a fully furnished infrastructure.
Civil engineers design and build many of the things that we use every day. Civil engineers work in the following fields: structures, transport, energy, water and food production. Many civil engineers work in the building industry together with architects, surveyors and building services engineers when designing structures and foundations for large buildings. Civil engineers design transport systems and build roads, stations and airports.
They also design systems for controlling traffic to ensure effective and safe use of the road system and aim to reduce the impact of roads and traffic on the environment. Civil engineers design and construct all types of power stations and hydroelectric projects.
Civil engineers are also involved in the research in harnessing renewable sources of energy such as geothermal and wave power.
Civil engineers design dams to create water storage reservoirs. Hydropower is used to generate electricity or the water may be diverted through tunnels, canals and pipelines to provide irrigation for the land, to transport water to cities and supply safe drinking water to homes and industry after due water treatment by engineers.
They also provide the systems for the collection and treatment of sewage so that it can be returned to the environment without causing pollution.
Civil engineers need to be good at maths, communication and design. Civil engineering utilizes technical information obtained from numerous other feilds such as science and technology.
Civil engineering is expected to be revolutionized by new technologies such as design software, GPS, GIS systems and other recent technical expertise in various fields.
Technology will continue to make important changes in the application of civil engineering, including the rapid progress in the use of 3-D and 4-D design tools.
B.E. Civil Engineering
The Department offers B.E. Civil Engineering affiliated to Anna University and approved by AICTE.

Athangudi Tile Factory
The Craft of Handmade Concrete.
Thirumayam Fort
Military Architecture. Constructed in 1687 by Sethupathy Vijaya Ragunatha Thevar, this fort is a prime example of a ring fort strategy.
Chettinad Palace
The Chettinad Palace, built in 1912, represents the peak of the Nagarathar community's architectural fusion of East and West.
Surveying Lab
Appreciate the need for accurate and thorough note taking in field work to serve as a legal record. Gain the ability to use modern survey equipment to measure angles and distances.
Strength of Materials Lab
Demonstrates the basic principles in the area of strength and mechanics of materials and structural analysis to undergraduate students through a series of experiments.
CADD
Lab allows the use of software for preparation of drawings for different engineering works and their design.
Soil Mechanics Laboratory
Students acquire understanding of basic physical and mechanical properties of soil and obtain skills in performing standard laboratory and field tests.
Concrete and Highway Laboratory
Students infer the suitability of materials for construction. They can design the mix, make specimens and test them.
Environmental Engineering Laboratory
Provides opportunity to determine different parameters of wastewater and sewage disposal.
Fluid Mechanics
Students understand the physical processes governing fluids at rest and in motion.
Survey Camp
A field activity providing real application of theoretical surveying principles and use of different devices.
